Shara McHayle: Co-Founder and President of Hoop 88 Dreams
PNB Nation was a project of love, determination and personal achievement for McHayle. She became a partner after working with the company for three years and leading a savvy marketing and sales strategy that catapulted PNB Nation’s revenue to $11.5 million. Successfully selling to exclusive specialty boutiques, major department stores and sporting goods retailers, PNB Nation arguably became the nation’s first global “cross-over” street wear fashion brand and consequently becoming a viable youth fashion resource.
Celebrities such as Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Lauryn Hill, Lil Kim and Eminem dressed in PNB Nation. The brand also found success with product placement of some the biggest 90’s cult favorites in films, such as Friday and Spike Lee’s Bamboozled and Clockers as well as television shows such as Martin, The Wayan Brothers, Living Single, New York Undercover and Chappelle’s Show on Comedy Central. PNB Nation’s popularity and market appeal became vital in securing a licensing deal with fashion powerhouse Perry Ellis International.
McHayle yearned for a viable re-entry back into the fashion industry in which she could make an impact, create and celebrate women and culture. Recognizing a market opportunity for a branded hoop earring e-commerce platform, McHayle made her return and launched Hoop88Dreams with her daughter Jade Everett in 2019.
Hoop88Dreams has made a splash recently on display with over (14) loaned pieces within the “Fresh, Fly and Fabulous: 50 Years of Hip Hop Style” at the Museum at FIT, contextualizing the hoop earring within hip hop. Also, H88D can be seen on the NYFW runways, and next will be teaming up with New York City Jewelry Week presenting “Truck Jewelry” – a multi sensory exhibit celebrating jewelry within hip hop – coming November 2023 – which will continue to commemorate hip hop’s golden anniversary.
Proving that “The World Is Yours”, McHayle draws on the intrinsic nature of hip hop and continues to bet on herself and the culture that raised her.
